Shredded cheese, or grated cheese, is any cheese which has gone through the process of being grated by the use of a cheese grater.

Cheese graters were invented by François Boulleir in 1540's France to increase the utilization of hard cheeses.

Popular cheeses in shredded form are parmesan and cheddar. Another interesting thing about grated cheeses is that they are often sold in cheese blend bags that incorporate multiple types of cheese, such as cheese blends often used in hispanic foods or cheeses to use on a pizza.

An oddly common practice amongst teens is to eat shredded cheese at 3 in the morning due to indecisiveness and increased appetite due to physical growth and/or mental illness.
